Social Services: Current Volunteer Opportunities
Food Boxes
The Food Pantry is open for business on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 12:45 to 2:30, except for holidays. (The pantry fits very neatly behind the accordion doors in the entrance to Balestra Hall in case you didn’t notice.) Typically, one volunteer checks a customer in, looking up records and confirming identification and two more volunteers assist them in making their selections and filling the bags. Volunteers also help restock the shelves. Time commitment: 2.0 hours.
Sack Lunches
This Monday through Friday ministry, begins at least one hour before the doors open at 10:00 a.m. when approximately 100 sandwiches are assembled. From 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., the lunches are distributed along with chips or a cookie and a cup of juice. Clean up is pretty simple. Time commitment: 2.0 hours.
Short & Sweet
1) Sometimes we order a lot of one type of food that needs to be divided into smaller portions. Dozens of eggs divided into ½ dozens or boxes of dried cherries re-packaged into snack sizes. 2) Through The Oregon Food Bank we receive donations of food drives in boxes containing many types of foods that need to be sorted for placement on the shelves. 3) Pick up and delivery errands, using the church van, to go to Cash & Carry, or St. Vincent de Paul warehouse. Time commitment: 2.0 hours average.
Volunteer Meetings
Second Monday of the month, in Balestra Hall, 11:00 to 12:00 a.m. Time commitment: 1.0.
