FAQs

Do you have any suggestions for what to do during my holy hour?

Each week, we provide a handout to guide your prayer, should you choose to use it. You can also check out the resources in the Spiritual Toolbox section of the St. Michael the Archangel website, stmichaelportland.org/spiritualtoolbox-holyhour

What do I do if I cannot make my time? How can I find a sub?

If you know in advance that you will not be able to make your adoration time, please try to find a substitute adorer, then contact your shift leader and let him/her know that you will not be there but that the other person (give name and contact info) will be subbing for you. If you cannot find a sub, please contact your shift leader and let them know you cannot make it and cannot find a sub. If something comes up last minute, please contact your shift leader and/or the other(s) who share your hour to let them know you will not be there.

What if I need to permanently change my time?

If you need to permanently change your time, please email adoration@stmichaelportland.org

What are the procedures for making sure we are safe?

When you enter and leave the church, please use the hand sanitizer available on the back cabinets. Please take a white laminated card to leave on your seat. This will let those who are taking care of cleaning/disinfecting know which seats to clean. We have assigned cleaners at different times throughout the 24 Hours. This allows each person to peacefully pray during his/her hour, without having to worry about cleaning his/her seat before or after the adoration time.

Do I need to check in?

If you are a regular adorer, we ask you to place a check by your name on the list of adorers which will be on the cabinets on the right hand side of the church as you enter. If you are subbing for a regular adorer, please write your name and put “sub for name of person” in parenthesis. If you are just dropping by, you can write your name down or not, as you choose.

Do I need to come in any specific entrance?

Day time adorers: If you are adoring between 1pm and before 10pm, and from 6am to noon, you may enter and exit through the main doors of the church. Night time adorers: If you are scheduled for a night hour, you will need to enter and exit through the Mill Street door (locked with code, you need to sign up to get it), go down through the parish hall, and up through the back of the church. All adorers: Please leave through the same door through which you entered. During the night hours, please do not leave out the front doors, for security reasons. Also, please do not enter through the sacristy or the other door that opens to the sanctuary, as Jesus will be exposed on the altar.
