ABOUT THE COURSE
In this course, we will discuss the seven deadly sins as conceived by two great thinkers, St. Thomas Aquinas and Dante Alighieri. We will together look at excerpts from Dante’s allegorical poem, Inferno, alongside the characterizations of pride, envy, wrath, sloth, avarice, gluttony, and lust found in Aquinas’ Summa theologiae. Along the way, we will discuss broader themes such as the process of self-examination, the effects of sin, and the virtues of humility, magnanimity, and hope.
